Mr. Alok Kumar Agarwal is Chief Financial and Risk Officer for Nomura Investment Bank. Nomura is a leading financial services group and the preeminent Asian-based investment bank with global reach. On October 13, 2008 Nomura completed the acquisition of Lehman Brothers’ investment banking, equities, and fixed income businesses in the Middle East. With this acquisition, Nomura is perfectly positioned to tap the growing regional market for financial services. Nomura has been a presence in the Middle East since 1974, with its regional headquarters in Bahrain since 1980. Alok Kumar Agarwal took on his position with Nomura’s Bahrain office in the summer of 2008.
Nomura took notice of Mr. Agarwal when he was a Department Manager at Banque Saudi Fransi. He had been with Banque Saudi Fransi since 2002 where he started as Deputy Department Manager and then rose to become Department Manager, a position he held for the last three years of his time with them. Mr. Agarwa’s diligence, enterprising nature, and valuable insights built on his experience actualized him as a superlative choice for a CFO position at Nomura in Bahrain.
Mr. Agarwal credits his India origins for instilling in him his understanding of many regional and international issues. In scholarly and structured areas of learning, he earned an M.B.A. and a B.A., completed an Associateship with A.I.I.I. (The Association of Indian Individual Investors), as well as having received a Diploma in Network Centered Computing.
He thrives at the challenges the frenzying essentiality of his work gives him. His home life brings him a much needed counterbalance. He is devoted to his wife Shilpa and their child Ayushi, who delight him daily. Mr. Agarwal enjoys the pleasant respite of reading a book. He also has a great appreciation for travel. His journeys benefit both his life and work.
